CNS for a 25 bed Emergency Department within a 350 bed private nonprofit acute care hospital and regional referral, teaching and research center, known for innovations in patient care.  The ED has as staff of 65 with 25000 annual visits.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) works with patients/families, staff and systems to achieve quality, cost-effective, patient-focused outcomes within a specialty area. Focus areas are clinical practice, teaching, research and consulting.

Responsibilities include:

1. Designs, implements and evaluates innovative individual and/or population-based programs of care to achieve desired evidence-based, quality, cost-effective, nurse-sensitive outcomes. Uses knowledge of differential illness, diagnoses and treatments in comprehensive, holistic assessments of patients.  May perform patient teaching and case management.

2. Serves as leader/consultant/mentor/change agent in advancing the practice of nursing among other nurses across the organization, using innovative evidence-based interventions, best-practice guidelines, and modification of professional standards and organizational policies that direct the care of nursing personnel and other providers of healthcare to improve outcomes. Promotes and participates in nursing research

3. Leads multidisciplinary groups to facilitate collaboration with other disciplines in the attainment of outcomes across the continuum of care.

4. Interprets the dimensions of nursing care requiring resources at the system level, providing leadership to ensure that the system adequately supports the delivery of nursing care. Works with Nursing leadership to ensure competency of staff.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in Nursing, Certification in a specialty area preferably ED or CCU,  At least 5 years’ experience in a clinical nursing capacity required; 5 or more years of specialized nursing with experience in evidence-based practice development, procedural based care, patient risk identification and adverse outcome prevention strategies preferred. Expert assessment, intervention and evaluation skills; Skill in utilizing evidence to develop, teach, guide and implement best practices, professional standards, and organization policies within a defined clinical specialty; Skill in engaging in interactive consultation to aid in shaping practice and improve the quality and comprehensiveness of care.
