We have been engaged by a very large non-profit Specialty Physician Group that is part of one of the nation’s leading hospitals and academic medical centers in the Houston Metro area. Our challenge is to identify seasoned Candidates for the position of Director of Physician Contracting and Practice Valuation

700+ physician providers ¾ specialty and ¼ primary care.

The Director Physician Contracting and Practice Valuation Summary:
• Oversees and builds financial models including financial and valuation analysis for physician employment.
• Serves as the subject matter expert with regards to provider compensation architecture to include variable compensation components, financial modeling of proposed plans (i.e., “what if scenarios”) and monitoring the performance of existing plans.
• Incumbent will be expected to advise key stakeholders of emerging strategic issues concerning primary care and specialty physician compensation, work relative value unit (wrvu) methodology, and incentive compensation opportunities.
• Compensation models must be market-competitive, sustainable, fiscally sound, and fully compliant with regulatory guidance.
• Must be able to liaise with entity CEO’s, Academic and department Chief’s as well as Administrators.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills are a must.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PEOPLE (20%)
1. Provides the leadership necessary to achieve a satisfied and competent employee work environment. Hires, coaches, develops, disciplines and terminates management and staff as necessary. Develops subordinates to perform these same functions.
2. Works collaboratively with all hospital leadership to evaluate physician practices for potential SPG and PCG employment. Serves as a liaison with Administrators in the process of reviewing and making recommendations on customized strategies for physician compensation.
3. Ensures appropriate communication with senior leadership on status of physician contracting.

FINANCE (20%)
1. Works with finance staff to establish appropriate budget; plans and organizes areas of responsibility to accomplish operational and strategic objectives and does so within budget.
2. Establishes and monitors all physician compensation and contractual relationship to ensure they are within market standards and monitors organizational impacts.

QUALITY/SAFETY (20%)
1. Ensures that physician compensation programs support and meet the changing needs and strategic objectives of organization.
2. Supports training, monitoring and operations that assure high levels of compliance with ethical and legal business practices.
3. Works directly with third party consultant to ensure physician compensation is within market and fair for the services provided.

SERVICE (20%)
1. Analyzes and reviews business and compensation data, including provider performance impact, budget/financial resources, and utilization across business lines, and make logical, business and data-driven conclusions and recommendations that support the mission and goals of a not-for-profit health system.
2. Oversees physician contract processes and ensures requirements are met including: pro forma, term sheets and managed-care credentialing. Develops, implements, and maintains a robust process and procedure required to support timely renewal of provider employment agreements.

GROWTH/INNOVATION (20%)
1. Works collaboratively with HMH legal to structure employment agreements and any other legal documentation necessary to recruit physicians.
2. Maintain market awareness of emerging trends in physician reimbursement and use as guide for evolving provider compensation models.
3. Stays abreast of regulatory compliance statues to include: Stark self-referral law, the federal anti-kickback statute, IRS regulations concerning tax-exempt organizations, fair market and commercial reasonableness.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in in business or healthcare related field
• MBA or related master’s degree required.
• 5-7 years in physician business services management.
• 2 years of management required.
• Knowledge of organizational strategies and operational objectives.
• Knowledge of the industry and impact of the department on overall objectives.
• Skilled in coaching, counseling and developing others.
• Knowledge of management principles, processes and procedures.
• Skilled in team building, team participation, and achieving organizational success.
• Strategic thinker; insightful decision maker.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.
• Knowledge of physician proformas, credentialing and financial experience.
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially about activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
