We have been engaged by a large non-profit nationally recognized integrated health system with multiple hospitals and region wide network of primary and specialty care clinics to identify candidates for RN Transplant Coordinator for a 325-bed medical center. The hospital performs 100+ Renal/Pancreas transplants annually and has been performing transplants for 40 years.

  1. Manager Transplant Services – Kidney/Pancreas

This Transplant Center in Seattle is a leader in kidney and pancreas transplant procedures in the Puget Sound region. It is also the first medical center in the Pacific Northwest to earn designation as a Donor Care Network Center of Excellence by the National Kidney Registry. The transplant programs serve a large area, providing transplants for patients in Alaska, Montana and Washington. The transplant program has been designed to serve the special needs of patients, families and referring physicians who live great distances from Seattle.

The role of the Transplant RN Manager is to make day to day decisions in meeting staffing needs to meet patient demand for services.

  • The role includes facilitating the interview process, hiring management, performance management, competency assessment and development, and counseling of staff.
  • Represents nursing in the local leadership and within the departmental service line at the organizational level.
  • Strong collaboration with the Nephrology and Urology departments that make up the Transplant service line. 
  • Is an integral part of the clinic leadership triad (Director, Section Head, RN Manager) in the management and delivery of transplant services in support of Virginia Mason’s mission, vision, and values.
  • This position directs the business, technical and nursing support activities of the transplant program
  • Provides leadership to develop and implement strategies and policies to accomplish care delivery and growth of services at best possible levels of cost effectiveness, regulatory compliance and stakeholder satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and three years of experience as a nurse supervisor, assistant nurse manager, or nurse manager.Requires a Registered Nurse license in the state of Washington.Skill in prioritizing the demands of daily operations and organizing resourcesExcellent oral and written communication skillsKnowledge of medical assistant scope of practiceCompetent active listening and conflict management skillsEstablished skill in facilitating change, cultural integration, retention, and building effective teams.Addressing and rectifying patient and/or staff concernsHigh-level problem-solving skills with flexible solutions for a changing healthcare market.Creates and motivates team to generate innovative ideas and challenge the status quo.Uses systems to identify a problem, route cause, and engages the team in solutions.


Preferred: Master’s Degree with Ambulatory clinic experience.

2)    RN Post Transplant Coordinator – Kidney/Pancreas

The Nurse Transplant Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Renal and Pancreas Transplants, as well as providing support to the department in the day to day function of the transplant section.  The RN Transplant Coordinator serves as the case manager, following all patients from initial referral, through the transplant process and during the transition back to the referring physician.

The Transplant Coordinator position requires an understanding of the complexity of the illnesses manifested by patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) along with the risk factors involved and the diagnostic and treatment options available.  The Transport coordinator is familiar with the intricacies of organ allocation and can explain this to patients.

Requirements:

  • BSN
  • RN Washington state license, ability to acquire
  • Strong patient assessment skills, ability to work collaboratively in team setting.
  • Current working knowledge of electronic medical records
  • CPR Certification
  • Understanding of the complexity of the illnesses manifested by patients with ESRD
  • Thorough understanding of the nationwide system of organ procurement and distribution is necessary;
  • knowledge of how to activate patients in the national registry and the procedure for acceptance of organs is recommended.
  • Understanding of the intricacies of organ allocation both from a practical standpoint as well as having the ability to explain this to patients is another vital component of this position.
  • This position also requires excellent communication and organization skills and proficient computer ability.

Preferred/Desired experience:

  • Experience managing complex patients or patients with chronic disease in an ambulatory setting.
  • Certification in Specialty area such as:
  • American Academy of Ambulatory Nursing I Certification in Care Coordination and Transition Management (CCCTM)
  • Oncology Nursing Society Provider Card for Chemotherapy/Biotherapy: Fundamentals of Administration
